What we did: Alternative Technology Labs developed a large majority of the SuggestionBox.com customer feedback management application. We designed and developed roughly 100% of the database, 70% of the Python / Django back end code, 30% of the front end HTML/CSS/JS. We also configured the load balancing, handled all the SCM, and preformed all the system administration.
Time to launch: The SuggestionBox project took 6 months from whiteboard to being featured on the front page of TechCrunch.

Web: Surf2Phone is a custom Python web application built from the ground up by Alternative Technology Labs. Surf2Phone aggregates data from several different sources and sends accurate text message surf forecasts to surfers all over California.
Mobile: Surf2Phone's text messaging platform was developed by Alternative Technology Labs and and is seamlessly integrated into the Surf2Phone website. Surf2Phone lets users decide when the report is delivered to their phone and the messaging platform makes sure it gets there in time.

What we did: Alternative Technology Labs does more then just websites, with Pliq we helped develop their core technology. Pliq needed a high-performance messaging platform and rather then building their own Pliq licensed a copy of ours. We selected, installed, configured, networked and secured the servers. Then we installed the Alternative Technology Labs Messaging Engine (same technology as Surf2Phone), connected the system to a text messaging provider and helped hire their first engineer.

High Performance Text Messaging

Fast Text Messaging: SoapBox Mobile needed a high performance messaging platform to be able to handle high volume text messaging campaigns. Alternative Technology Labs licensed a copy of the messaging platform and helped integrate it into SoapBox's existing messaging system for 20-30x speedup. Leveraging our technology SoapBox was able to send / receive on the order of 300 text messages per second.
